relevant visit

Martha and Jenny and Dulcimer and I got to visit Relevant mag on our free afternoon one day at the convention. It was pretty grand. We felt silly visiting someone else's workplace, but since we were in town, and we admire them all, we decided to stop by. Managing Editor Tyler showed us around a bit, and we all ended up sitting in the vault-turned-conference room for like 20 minutes talking about magazine writing, redesigns, brainstorming, and yearlong planning. (Which, of course, was fascinating talk for our magazine-oriented brains.) Then Project Manager Nick showed us the rest of the place and gave us all copies of Radiant magazine. I also got to meet friend-of-a-friend Tia who actually just lived in COS a year ago. Small world! Martha took some inspirational pics in hopes of remodeling the brio cubiclces, I took a pic with Tia for our mutual friend, we peeked in the room where they tape the weekly podcast, and then we were on our way... back to the EPA convention... and back to our jobs... newly inspired by a workplace where 20-somethings hold legitimate positions on staff, where they're intentional about who they write about and why, about who their audience is and what they want to hear, what they need to read. It wasn't an earth-shattering visit, but it did put a little spin on the "they're just real people" thing. Yes, they produce really cool magazines and books and such. But they're just normal people.
