little things.

a local gal who cuts my hair killed herself recently. it's pretty sad. she gave me these really cute long bangs (i kept meaning to call her to cut them again) and we talked about climbing and life and work and how amazing the show arrested development is/was. we discussed which character we'd dress up as if we had an arrested development party. and she was always trying to convince me to dye my hair, even just a few highlights would look so great! she'd say every single time. the last time she cut my hair i remember walking in and she was running about half an hour late on a crazy busy day, so i decided to be super patient and read a magazine. which, if you know my addiction/passion with magazines, was really more of a pleasure than an inconvenience. i was her last customer of the day and recall her saying my patience brought relief to her day, like she could breathe again. things felt lighter. i know that little things make a big difference in people's lives. in our purposes. in how we see ourselves in the world. but sadly, sometimes it takes a death to make us think about it.

i really didn't know her very well. but it's a small town. and that's one more fun quirky smiling face i won't get to see at the grocery store or run into at the bar.
